Beyond Politics: Prioritizing Nigeria’s Unity and Progress

The Supreme Court verdict about Nigeria’s presidential election drew varying reactions from different quarters; those who saw themselves on the winning side, and those who saw themselves on the other side.

Without doubt, no-one wants to experience ‘defeat’. The kind of emotions that follow unpleasant outcomes can sometimes, if not well managed, make you do some unimaginable things.

I remember a phrase common those days in school when we get a score we are not pleased with, we say, “The lecturer gave me”, but when the outcome is good, we say, “we scored”. No one likes the taste of defeat. But there are a number of things to learn when such experiences come our way. Apart from humbling the person, it tests the quality of one’s esteem and strength of character. And oftentimes many people fail the test.

Have you ever wondered why football teams don’t quit after a particular defeat? I have seen a number of football matches where a particular team is five goals down, and they still keep playing. They accept the outcome of the match, learn from it and move on to the next one.

We need to have a better mentality when it comes to politics. The players and spectators must realize that Nigeria is what is at stake, not the ‘teams’ (LP, APC or PDP). The brand must be prioritized. All sentiments must be shoved aside. It is time for governance.

It is a new beginning. Let everyone occupying any leadership position know this- Nigeria is more important than that political party you are fighting for. In the first instance,  without Nigeria, your political party has no need to exist.

Nigeria needs to fulfill her potential and we won’t achieve that in discord. Everyone has a part to play, and we owe our beloved country that duty. God bless Nigeria.

NB: this is not for or against any political party. I speak for Nigeria- what connects all of us.
